Along with World COPD Day 2024, which is Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the entire month of November is National COPD Awareness Month.
Be on the lookout for multiple ways to get involved during this time dedicated to COPD patients, caregivers, health care practitioners, researchers, affiliated communities, and organizations worldwide.
2024 Theme
The theme for World COPD Day 2024 is “Know your lung function,” according to the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). The theme helps highlight the importance of lung health.
In addition, many resources are available from organizations dedicated to COPD prevention and care:
- View the latest estimates of COPD diagnosis rates by state from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- The CDC offers resources for action and education, including listings for patient support groups and self-management resources.
- For National COPD Awareness Month, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) provides sharable resources like fact sheets, infographics, videos, and toolkits.
- Become familiar with NHLBI’s program on overall lung health, including COPD and health, called Learn More Breathe Better. Access the Learn More Breathe Better program’s specific COPD resources here.
- You can also register for the Learn More Breathe Better program webinar on October 10, 2024 from 2-3pm ET on “COPD: Protect Your Lungs for Life.” There will be speakers from NHBLI, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the COPD Foundation, and the American Lung Association.
More ideas for taking action during this awareness month and for World COPD Day can be found in the NHLBI National Action Plan’s suggestions for patients, families and caregivers.
